Eventful Day Planned In Plymouth Saturday

TERRYVILLE-Saturday will be an eventful day in Plymouth. The Bicentennial Parade begins at 2 p.m.. the judging of the beard contest will be at 4 p.m. in Baldwin Park and a testimonial dinner for Terryville native Ted Knight is slated for 7 p.m. in the high school.

Knight has consented to be the grand marshal of the parade and will ride the entire route from Petit's to town hall. Parade chairman Edwin Chmieleski has said there will be 35 floats, 15 bands, and several drill teams participating in the parade.

Knight is being honored with a dinner for his enthusiastic support of local activities including the parade. The television star has also consented to be the honorary national chairman of the Lock Museum of America's fund drive. Knight arrived in Plymouth Thursday and will leave for his California home Sunday.

More than 500 persons are expected to attend the dinner sponsored by the Women's Guild of St. Casimir's Church. The event has been a sell­out for several weeks.

Police Chief John Krinitsky said Thursday that there will be no parking in the town hall and East Main Street School parking lot Saturday except for those participating in the parade. Route 6 from Holt Street to the Terryville­Bristol town line will be closed to traffic beginning at 1 p.m.

Many town's organization and groups will take part Saturday in the festivities. Boy Scout Troop 75 will sell beverages during the parade while the P.F. of the Terryville Congregational Church will hold a strawberry festival beginning at 12:30 p.m.
